From Raf Simons’ debut collection at Christian Dior, the couture show famous for over a million flowers lining the salon walls, these shoes are a good (albeit small) example of his work at Dior. The virgule, or comma, was first designed by Dior’s Roger Vivier in 1963 to push away from the stiletto, and Simons made its curved silhouette his own by sharpening the lines and making them black to match his sleek and modern aesthetic. I get the sense his designs for Dior will become collectible among die hard Raf fans now that he’s left the house. And even if you’re not one of them, daring shoes like these could make a traditional uniform bold, or a stylish look even more so, with subtlety and charm that, in my experience, translates as chic.
